Challenges

Limited access, deep reservoir with long slope, and accelerated work schedule

Solutions

Pre-fabricated large one piece panels to maximize area coverage and reinforced membrane to reduce wrinkle and slope creep

The existing Chambers Reservoir posed several unique installation challenges that Raven had to contend with. The existing slope depth and length created a safety concern for wildlife and operators with the newly installed liner, as well as leaving minimal deployment access for the installation crews on much of the reservoir.

Working closely with the owner and design engineer, Raven was able to pre-fabricate custom escape ladders that were installed all the way around the reservoir, in the event someone was to accidentally fall in. The customer ladders were of contrasting color, so they were highly visible in the event on an emergency. The access could not be remedied as easily, so Raven employed a much larger crew to ensure production and ground coverage of the prepared subgrade was covered as quickly as possible which helped keep the job on track and completed before the owners needed it.

Raven’s world-class manufacturing, custom fabrication, and certified installation services provided the unique solutions for the Chambers Dam Reservoir Remediation project. This project consisted of upgrading an existing earthen raw water storage reservoir and fabricating and installing a 45 Mil Black / Tan – N45BT (Scrim reinforced LLDPE.) with a 16oz. geotextile underlayment for protection.

Adding to the complexity of the project, 6,600 LF of black safety ladders were installed in various spots around the perimeter to ensure safety while accessing or egressing the reservoir. Our ability to provide large prefabricated panels maximized production and shorten the overall installation time greatly. Time savings was a critical component of this project due to the owner deadlines and the challenging fall / winter weather common for Colorado.

“This 11 year-long project began in 2009 and is a water supply project to better serve the Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater Authority (ACWWA) service area. Upon its completion, the ACWWA Flow Project will provide an annual average delivery of 4,400 acre-feet of renewable water. This new water will supplement current water supplies, providing a secure and high quality water source for current and future ACWWA customers.”
